Who am I?
Assalamu alaikum
Welcome to my blog!
I am Sophie from London, UK. I consider myself really lucky since I was brought up in a privileged family. My parents were really educated and stressed a lot on achieving good grades since a young age. I became an aeronautical engineer last year alhamdulillah and am now working for a very prestigous Europeans Organisation in London.
A few years ago I was introduced to Islam. Well I have always had Muslims friends since an early age, however didn't think much of Islam until quite recently. The only impressions I had of Islam was that it was backwards and didn't recommend treating women nicely. It all changed when i started reading about it in detail during my early university years. The more I read about it, the more I was fascinated by it. All my negative assumptions and understanding about Islam soon went away when I realized that it is a beautiful religion that doesn't only encourage us to treat each man and woman on this planet with respect but even the animals and non-living things like trees and rest of the environment. Islam is actually a very 'Green' religion although most people don't know about this! For example Prophet Muhammad (saw) specifically told Muslim Generals not to harm any women, children, old man and even young who didn't want to fight during the war but what was amazing for me was that He (saw) also specifically mentioned not to torch any parks or gardens in the enemy territory!
I soon realized Islam was the way of life for me and I took my Shahada in my final year at the university. I soon then picked up the courage to wear Hijab. It has not been easy, I sometimes get really angry stares from my own people, considering I am white and my family has lived in England for hundreds of years, its surprising that just a piece of cloth on someone's head can make someone feel outlawed and outcast in the eyes of others. Anyways I will be blogging a lot about my life and Islam and epsecially Hijab.
So Stay Tuned!!
